Although cabbage farming is a profitable business, it is critical to establish a clear budget that will help you avoid unnecessary expenses while maximizing the scarce necessary resources to make a profit and minimize unwanted losses. The cost of cabbage farming in Kenya depends on a number of factors, such as the size of the farm. For instance, given that the cost of ploughing is Ksh.4500, with a spacing of 60cm–45cm, an acre can hold about 15,400 seedlings, the cost of the seedlings is Ksh.28000, an acre requires DAP and CAN, both 75kgs each, and it costs Ksh. 21,300 and Ksh. 9,750, respectively, chemicals will cost at least Ksh. 25,000, labor will cost Ksh. 30,000, and other costs of production will cost Ksh. 30,000. 

As a result, the total cost of production is Ksh. 144,050. Estimate a 10% loss of the 15400 seedlings. Hence, you will harvest 15,000 heads at Ksh.20 per head.

Cabbage farming in Kenya is a popular agricultural activity that has become a lucrative venture and is earning profits for many farmers in Kenya. A farmer can earn approximately Ksh. 155,950 exclusive of other farm expenses.

The Copenhagen market is the most common variety, with slightly affordable prices, especially for low-income farmers. Below are some of its prices: 

i. Copenhagen Market 10g Ksh.50

ii. Copenhagen Market 20g Ksh.65

iii. Copenhagen Market 25g Ksh.80

iv. Copenhagen Market 50 Ksh.160

2. Queen F1 Cabbage Seeds Variety

Queen F1 is amongst the best-recommended seed varieties, with their price being as below: 

i. Queen F1 50g ksh.3740 

3. Gloria F1 Cabbage Seeds Variety

 Gloria F1 is the most popular variety with the highest yields per acre, and its prices are:

i. Gloria F1 10g ksh.780

ii. Gloria F1 25g ksh.1930

iii. Gloria F1 50g ksh.3860

4. Sugar Loaf Cabbage Seed Variety

The price of Sugar Loaf cabbage seeds is similar to those of Copenhagen. Its price is quite predictable, such that a 50g is Ksh.180. 

Cabbage Profit Per Acre

The cabbage profit breakdown is calculated as below:

One acre is estimated to produce 15,000 heads of cabbage. One cabbage goes for Ksh.20.

Therefore: 

Ksh.20 ×15,000 heads = Ksh. 300,000 (Gross Profit)

Therefore, the expected cabbage profit per acre is the total sum of all the farm activities with a deduction of other expenses as below. 

Gross Profit – other expenses

Estimated expenses = Ksh.144,050

Gross profit = Ksh. 300,000

Ksh. 300,000–Ksh. 144,050

= Ksh. 155,950 (Net profit)
