Guide to Follow When Spraying Watermelon in Kenya

Pests and diseases can hurt the growth and development of watermelons and lower their yields. Therefore, you can control them by spraying them with pesticides and fungicides.

The spray used is chlorothalonil, copper, and mancozeb, which are used as fungicides. They protect watermelons against gummy stem blight, downy mildew, and anthracnose. The spring program is designed to manage bacterial blotch, bacterial leaf spots, and powdery mildew on watermelon.

Steps to Be Followed When Spraying Watermelon

The following seven steps are to be followed when spraying a watermelon:

1. Use 70 g of spray and mix it in 20 liters of water.

2. Spray early in the morning by spraying when the vines are starting to run, no later than when the first flowers open.

3. From vine run until mid-May, you should spray the watermelon plant every ten days.

4. After mid-May, spray every week through harvest, regardless of whether.

5. Apply fungicides, allowing time to dry before a predicted rain rather than after.

6. Do not stop spraying until one week before the final harvest.

7. Spray once a week during the dry season and at least twice during the wet season, and start when the plants have germinated.
