The cost of both male and female mature rabbits in Kenya is between Ksh.1,000 and Ksh.1,500 depending on the type of breed. A mature rabbit that weighs up to 4 kg costs Ksh. 2,000 while a pregnant rabbit is sold at Ksh. 3,500.

Cost of Rabbak Rabbits

Rabbak is an association that promotes, regulates, and facilitates rabbit production in Kenya. They buy rabbits from farmers at a specific price per rabbit.

The cost of the Rabbak rabbit breed is Ksh. 3500 per rabbit. Also, farmers who have taken rabbits to be slaughtered are paid according to the weight of a rabbit. For instance, they pay Ksh. 400 per kilo for dead weight and Ksh. 200 per kilo for live weight.

Cost of Rabbits in Kenya

Therefore, the price of a 1 to 2-month old rabbit is Ksh. 350, while grown rabbits, both males and females, weighing 5 to 6 kg are between Ksh. 1,000 and Ksh. 1,500 depending on the breed.

One kilo of rabbit costs Ksh. 450 for dead weight and Ksh. 225 for live weight in Kenya.

In Kenya, the price of rabbits will depend on the type of rabbit breed, its age and location. The high rabbit breed will cost more than other breeds.

In Kenya, there is no specific market for selling rabbits. Instead, farmers can sell rabbits to local companies that were established to promote rabbit production. Also, farmers can supply rabbits to places like hotels, restaurants, and supermarkets for sale.
