In Kenya, there are many places where you can sell your rabbits. Some of the places include hotels, rabbit butcheries, schools, and open markets. However, there is no formal market for selling rabbits and their products in Kenya, but there are local companies that facilitate the marketing of rabbits.

Rabbits for sale in Nairobi can either be young ones or grown ones. The price of a rabbit depends on the type of rabbit breed. For example, mature New Zealand rabbits are sold at Ksh. 1,000, Angora rabbits at Ksh. 2,500, and giant male rabbits at Ksh. 1,500.

Rabbit meat is popular because there are rabbit slaughterhouses that come up, slaughtering rabbits, hence increasing the demand for rabbit meat in Kenya. Also, rabbit meat is a healthy product of high nutritional value, and it is a tender white meat free of cholesterol.

7 Buyers of Rabbits in Kenya 

In Kenya, there are seven buyers of rabbits and their products. They include:

1. Companies that Buy Rabbits 

These are established bodies that offer bulk purchases of rabbits at good prices.

2. High Ranking Hotels and Restaurants 

The highly ranked hotels and restaurants promote rabbit farming since rabbit meat is mostly preferred over other white meat, hence making them purchase rabbits at large.

3. Outside Catering and Special Events 

When there are special events or ceremonies, they might buy a mature rabbit from farmers for meat.

4. Rabbit Slaughterhouse 

A slaughterhouse in Kenya buys mature rabbits from farmers, hence improving the rate of purchasing rabbits.

5. Local Butcheries

Local butcheries have been among the potential and reliable buyers of rabbits from various points of production in Kenya.

6. Schools and Research Centers

They buy rabbits from farmers for experiments during practical lessons.

7. Food Processing Companies 

Companies that use rabbit meat to make sausages and burgers purchase rabbits.

There are various hotels that sell meat to their customers in Kenya. The hotels that buy rabbit meat in Kenya are 3 star, 4 star, and 5 star hotels.

Star hotels in Nairobi sell rabbit meat in Kenya at Ksh. 1,200 per kilo.

There are not many exporters of rabbit meat in Kenya, but that will increase with time. Therefore, Alcare Group and the Rabbit Republic are examples of exporters of rabbit meat in Kenya.

There is a market for rabbits in Nairobi that buys and collects rabbits within the areas of Nairobi and outside Nairobi. These markets include Garden Estate at Roster, City Market, and Rabbit Republic Limited.

Here are four companies that buy rabbit and its products in Kenya:

1. Rabbit Breeders Association of Kenya

This is a company that liaises with the ministry of livestock and buys and slaughters rabbits from farmers in Nairobi and Thika.

2. Alcare Group

It deals mainly with Canadian Dorwan Giant rabbits. This organization works with owners of rabbits in 24 counties in Kenya. 

The Alcare group trains farmers on rabbit farming and sells them a stock of eight rabbits, of which six are female rabbits, and they are served. In about four months, each rabbit will produce eight bunnies.

Alcare group rabbit farming is contractual and works with farmers who know the type of feed they are giving to the rabbits they buy. Also, they can work with independent farmers who have rabbits that were not bought from them. They work with about 1,000 rabbit farmers.

They slaughter about 3000 animals and export them to Canada. They pay about Ksh. 350 to Ksh. 450 per kilogram for their stock, depending on the type of rabbit.

3. Rabbit Republic

This is a company that buys rabbits and supplies meat to hotels in Nairobi and also buys rabbit skin and fur for making bags and shoes.

4. Kenya Com Rabbit Consortium Limited

This particular company offers farmers market for rabbit by product mainly urine which is used to make fertilizer.
